Most people think Bull Terriers are stubborn and difficult to train.
A dog that has been trained, has a full understanding of the command and yet chooses to ignore you, is stubborn. A dog that has not been trained and does not know how to perform commands, is not stubborn. He is untrained.
Nine out of ten Bull Terriers their owners call stubborn, are not trained. What is actually the case, is that dog owners have taught their dogs some things and therefore consider them trained. In reality, the dogs have not fully understood the commands. Dog trainers on the other hand, who put the labels “stubborn” and “hard to train” on Bull Terriers, have tried to train them as they would any other dog without accomplishing their goal.
Bull Terriers are clever dogs and idiosyncratic. Idiosyncratic meaning, they do things their own way.
Bull Terriers are neither stubborn nor difficult to train. Their training requires a different approach in order to achieve the desired training results.
